Step 0 · Introduction
How to Choose the Right Dog Wheelchair
Every dog’s situation is different.
This guide helps you understand whether a wheelchair is suitable, and which type and series may be the right fit — based on your dog’s actual mobility and daily life.
No medical terms required.
Step 1 · Before You Start
Is a wheelchair suitable for your dog?
✅ Basic requirement
A dog wheelchair is designed to support movement, not replace it.
For a wheelchair to work properly, your dog should be able to move at least two legs, either independently or with light assistance.
This allows the wheelchair to work with your dog’s natural movement, rather than against it.
🚫 When a wheelchair may not be the right choice
In some situations, focusing on comfort rather than mobility support may be more appropriate.
A wheelchair may not be suitable if:
-
Your dog is in the final stage of life
-
Your dog is unable to stay conscious or hold their head up
-
Your dog experiences severe, ongoing pain
-
Your veterinarian has advised comfort-only care
In these cases, a wheelchair may add stress rather than comfort.
If you’re unsure, we recommend speaking with your veterinarian or contacting our support team before making a decision.
Step 2 · Observe Your Dog’s Mobility
Which situation best describes your dog right now?
You don’t need medical knowledge — simply choose what you observe.
A. Can move forward using the front legs
B. One or both back legs are weak or no longer supporting weight
C. Front legs are weak, back legs are also unstable
D. Senior dog with slow, unsteady movement
E. Front legs are severely impaired, back legs remain strong (less common)
Step 3 · Wheelchair Type Recommendation
Based on the situation above, the following wheelchair types are recommended:
If you selected A or B
Rear Support Wheelchair (2-Wheel)
Designed to support weak or paralyzed hind legs while allowing the front legs to move naturally.
This is the most commonly used wheelchair type.
If you selected C or D
Full Support Wheelchair (4-Wheel)
Provides balanced support when both front and back legs need assistance.
Especially suitable for senior dogs or dogs with complex mobility challenges.
If you selected E (less common)
Front Support Wheelchair
Designed for specific front-leg conditions.
This option is recommended only when rear-leg strength is intact.
Step 4 · Core vs Pro
Choosing the right series
Both Core and Pro wheelchairs are designed to support mobility.
The right choice depends on your dog’s size, condition, and daily environment.
| Core Series | Pro Series | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Small to medium-sized dogs | Dogs of all sizes |
| Condition type | Stable mobility conditions | Complex or progressive conditions |
| Frame & stability | Compact, lightweight | Larger frame, more stable |
| Terrain suitability | Flat indoor or smooth outdoor surfaces | Uneven ground, outdoor & mixed terrain |
| Braking system | — | Built-in braking support |
| Adjustability | Fixed configuration | Adjustable, expandable configuration |
| Upgrade path | — | Rear support can be upgraded to full support |
Summary:
If your dog is larger, moves on varied terrain, or needs greater stability and control, the Pro series offers more flexibility over time.
